Here are a couple of shots from the Jekyll Workshop converted to black and white and the sepia toned. Seemed to be just what the images needed. The first one was shot on Driftwood Beach one morning. I liked the way the clouds, branches and water all echo the same shapes and patterns. The second one was in a marsh area near the pier at sunset. I call the second one “Marooned on Jekyll” because that’s what we were for a while till we decided to ford the stream to get away from the “bugs”. That little stream in the foreground is 2 feet deep and NOT receding.

Driftwood Beach – Jekyll Island
No, the sky wasn’t really that color, but the trees on Driftwood Beach were REALLY that spectacular! I did some post production enhancements to add a little mood to the image. Actually this image can be processed with quite a few different interpretations. This is just the one I went with at the moment…
Jekyll Island – Infrared Part 2
Here are four more images taken on Jekyll Island the last night of the workshop. These were all shot around the historic district.
Tidal Bubbles
While shooting in the marshes one evening a few of us got marooned by the tide (you know who you are). As we were waiting for the tide to go out Craig pointed us to the moving bubbles on the tide. This was a 6 second exposure using a Sing-Ray Variable ND filter. Eventually we had a few too many bugs to deal with and did a knee high water crossing to get back to civilization. You might say we paid in blood for these shots…
Egret in Marshes – White on Blue
On Sunday morning we went out at 5:30am to shoot on Driftwood Beach till the sun came up, then we moved to the marshes to shoot the front and sidelight. I was walking up the bike trail following a deer in the marsh when we saw this egret in the tree further down. I pushed the ISO up to 800 and hurried down the trail to get some shots. Must have taken about 50 – 70 shots with different framing and waiting for the egret to get in a better position to make the design of the image stronger. The front light was perfect and a little white cloud in the background doesn’t hurt either. I see it as a very oriental style image. All in all, a very good day of photography.
Jekyll Island – Infrared
Here are a few of the IR shots I took around the historic district at Jekyll Island. I am pretty sure I am hooked on IR and will be doing more in the future.
Jekyll Island – More Images
For some reason I didn’t take many images of the amazing trees at Driftwood Beach. I usually got engrossed in beach texture and color. I’m not complaining, just explaining…
This is one of my favorite images of the week.
Here’s an HDR image taken in the historic district at sunset. I have a bunch of infrared shots I took in the historic district one evening that I will process as I get some time.
More From Jekyll Island
We were out at 5:30am just about every day to shoot. This was taken on Driftwood Beach, I know no trees, combination of two exposures, layered in Photoshop and blended. The colors were amazing, especially the reflected blues.
This was taken on the last day, Sunday morning. We shot on the beach for sunrise, then moved to the marsh area nearby to get the sidelight. Walking down the bike trail I had to change lenses quickly to get this silhouette before the light was gone.
Jekyll Island Workshop
This was taken on a workshop with Craig Tanner and Marti Jeffers from The Mindful Eye. The best workshop experience I have had. I recommend them to anyone, at any level of experience. Went to the beach at 5:30am to get some twilight shots. This is a 30 second exposure before sunrise and before the bugs come out.
