Violet-Green Color Study - D700, Lensbaby Composer Pro, Sweet 35
In the garden at Kings Gap were these flowers in the bright sun. Right under them was some violet phlox, perfect for a nice soft background in an complimentary color to the leaves with some white accents.

Pink Dogwood Soft - D700, Lensbaby Composer Pro
A few more from the dogwood in the yard…the wind was really blowing…but not quite as much as this. I did a little work in CS5 using Pixel Bender blur.
This one is using my 85mm PC lens, one version in color and one converted to black and white in Nik Silver Effects Pro.

Pink Dogwood - D700, Lensbaby Composer Pro, Soft Focus Optic
Every year I enjoy photographing the pink dogwood in our yard. The rain finally stopped and the light was wonderful. Right after it’s stops raining is one of my favorite times to photograph, just grab your camera and go outside. I put my Lensbaby Composer on with the soft focus optic and proceeded to shoot a few hundred images. The wind was starting to blow the flowers around quite a bit so there was a bit of a challenge. Should be a few more images worth posting later as I review and process the ones that speak to me…

Yellow and Blue - D700, Lensbaby Composer, Sweet 35
Got one of the new Lensbaby Sweet 35 optics recently and have been trying it out. Shot this on the kitchen counter with the overhead lights on and some window light in the background. With the right white balance and a little post processing in CS5 the vase glows a wonderful blue.
Much easier to quickly adjust the f stop and depth of field with the Sweet 35 optic. I also got the Lensbaby Composer Pro. HUGE difference in smoothness of focus and sweet spot adjustment and the optics go in and out much easier. The one to get if you are thinking of getting a Lensbaby.
Orange Tulips - D700, Lensbaby Composer, Sweet 35
It’s been some time since I have posted anything to the blog…also been some time since I’ve had any free time, energy or desire to do any photography. We have had a serious medical issue at home that has taken all my energy to manage. At the present time things have settled down and we are trying to get some kind of life back…soooo I have managed to do some new images.
My wife has been getting flowers from the family every week for a while now and that makes for some instant subject matter. The orange tulips were shot back-lit in the window using the new Sweet 35 optic from Lensbaby. Much easier to adjust the f-stop quickly as needed.
Textured Pink Tulips - D700, Lensbaby Composer, Sweet 35
The pink tulips were shot using the same setup and processed with some texture overlays using Flypaper Textures. I’ve been wanting to play with these for a while and now I finally got to have some fun. This is my first experiment with the Flypaper Textures and I’m sure it won’t be my last.

Floral Abstract B+W - D700, 24-70mm
This is a floral abstract done with an in camera multiple (10 shot) exposure technique. My interpretation of a Tony Sweet technique, loosely moving the camera between exposures. Converted to black and white in Nik Silver Efex Pro and finished off in CS5 with some local area contrast adjustments. Another variation doing a little playing around with the Twirl filter in CS5…not sure which one I like better.

Butterfly in Sepia - D700, 70-200mm w/500D
Four different images from the garden…we will start with the least colorful first. Even though it isn’t very colorful I like this one most of all. Second up is a multiple 10 shot done in camera rotating the camera and moving in a little each time.

The butterfly’s were quite active in the garden this morning so I got out my 70-200mm and added a Canon 500D close up lens to get me a little closer. Here’s another shot of one coming in for a landing…click image to view a little larger.

The last of the summer flowers are still holding on…shot this with my Lensbaby Composer through a piece of textured glass. Post processing in CS5 with Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 to bring up the color some more.

I haven’t posted too many images lately, been working on some other projects…so every so often I get an call or email from my friend Tony wondering if I’m still alive or what? Nice to know I’m missed…so here are a few images from the garden recently. Nothing to set the world on fire but at least it show’s I’m still alive and taking photos.
