The Great Mantis Shoot 2013 Begins

Newly Hatched Mantis – D700, 85mm PC

Every year we have at least one mantis egg sack in the garden and I play “Spot the Mantis” and photograph them. This year I have found four egg sacks and got to watch them hatch the other day. Grabbed the camera quickly and rattled off a few images. These guys & gals are slightly longer than a quarter of an inch and there were hundreds (see next image). I should have plenty of mantis in the garden to follow this summer with my camera. Stay tuned, definitely more mantis images to come… (For Steve: You mentioned mantis images in your email, well “here they are”). Click images to view larger.
